Engel Family Field
The Miracle League of San Diego was initially brought to Southern California by our dedicated founders, Dan and Suzie Engel, who first learned about the Miracle League organization after watching a segment on HBO’s Real Sports. They were so inspired that they immediately got to work establishing a local Miracle League to serve the more than 30,000 children with special needs throughout San Diego County.
In a unique public/non-profit partnership with the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and with support from our San Diego Padres, Engel Family Field, a Little Padres Park, was opened in 2007 at San Dieguito County Park. Engel Family Field was funded with public and private funds, grants and contributions. It’s the first ADA-accessible ball field of its kind in Southern California, and we’re excited to be able to play all our games at this incredible facility.
The field’s surface is Mondo’s Super X, a flat cushioned rubber mat that ensures that children with special needs can safely and successfully play baseball. The field also includes an electronic scoreboard and state-of-the-art PA system that provides Miracle Leaguers a unique “big league” experience.
In coming seasons, Engel Family Field will include additional accessible parking. The Jack in the Box Foundation is the lead corporate sponsor for the upcoming additions and has generously donated $50,000 toward the building fund.
Engel Family Field and San Dieguito County Park are located at 1628 Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Del Mar at the northeast corner of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Highland Drive.
